Joker was a challenge from the day he arrived. Not only did we fail to receive his CKC registration papers, but we soon learned that his temperament was far from perfect. By the time Joker reached the age of 2 yrs, we resigned ourselves to the fact that he would never be used in any breeding program or achieve his CKC Championship title. While we had waited on the promised papers, we did dabble in the Conformation ring and in time, he was awarded a total of 9 out of the 10 required points towards his title. Consistently winning Best of Breed over Specials, he would have easily reached that goal. Joker was awarded #5 German Pinscher in Canada for 2002. Ironic considering the CKC would not recognize him with papers but was willing to award him a Top Dog placement.
As a neutered boy, his mind became a little more focused and became an excellent Agility partner. Each time he received a qualifying leg towards his title, he did it in style; never less than second place in his field. His competitive nature gave us an edge as he always gave 110%. The only time this boy faltered is attributed to handler error. During competition, he never once knocked a bar or missed a contact. However, he quite often decided that the course laid out before him was beneath him. These were the moments where he would become the afternoon amusement as he ran his own course much to our embarrassment! Although, we had to give him points for originality!
He is greatly missed and the lessons he taught us will never be forgotten.
