"Ithaca Eludes Me"
By Jennifer Joy Arend
I am lost at sea
My thoughts a cruel ocean
My eyes trying to catch the tide
Of overwhelming emotion
Ithaca eludes me
I forever search for home
Tossed about in misery
Everywhere I roam
I find no pleasure
In people or in places
No understanding stares
From these unfamiliar faces
Sometimes for a moment
A vision of home finds me
A mirage that disappears
Into the raging sea
This odyssey has become
A never-ending journey
For time and time again
Ithaca eludes me
