E Mail Me

I began this project in 1996 and posted the first of my pages in the spring of 1997.

My interest in The Great War (1914-18) was sparked back in the early 1980's when I was a university student studying 20th century English poetry. I began to see the effects of the war through Wilfred Owen and his contemporaries, most of whom died in the war.

later on, I became interested in how the war began and how the pre-1914 world seemed so very different from the post-1918 world. But although the first war brought about great changes in art and society, I began to see that in a political sense at least, the war did not solve much and Word War II was more of a continuation of the conflict rather than an entirely new one.

I am not an historian by trade, only by hobby. My main goal is to write down observations and opinions, not necessarily to teach anything to anyone else. Hopefully others will find it interesting, and I welcome all comments, suggestions, additions etc.
How far and how in-depth this site goes only time will tell!
