Vol. 3, No. 01 - July 24, 2003 Coach Brett Retires |
|
After four rewarding years coaching the Greece Lady Buccaneers, Coach Brett is retiring from travel soccer. He leaves behind a team that over the years experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. The victory over Irondequoit in the 2001 Irondequoit tournament was huge. The losses in Marcellus (on penalty kicks in 2000 and double overtime in 2003) were heartbreaking. Overall, Coach Brett’s team competed in more than 150 soccer games with nearly half of them ending with a notch in the "wins column". An impressive 34 shutouts were also recorded by his team, a testament to his philosophy that if your opponent cannot score, it only takes one goal to win a game. |
Many fond memories along the way are not to be forgotten. The picture of relief on Coach’s face when "Soccer Dad" showed up 5 minutes (maybe) before a tournament game after getting lost... with roughly half the team in his car. The Niagara tournament, team party and Maid of the Mist boat ride... an incredibly fun weekend filled with great soccer, even though we didn’t win a game. The out of town Mall excursions that always seemed to be a team (and Mom) favorite. Coach Ellis, who will be taking over the reins next season, kicking off a spirited game of Spud with members of the U14 team. One cannot forget the many, many fine soccer games that the team played under his leadership. His plea’s to "push up", "get wide", "shooooot", will continue to ring in our ears for a very long time. His inspiration to those few players who overcame adversity and won past season ending awards. The team campouts, the occasional stops for a post-game ice cream, all the "hardware" we collected over the years. And his kind words for each of his players, red hankie in hand, was always a season ending highlight. Most importantly, he leaves behind 32 young ladies who, no doubt, are better soccer players thanks to his coaching efforts over the years. Thank you Coach Brett! |
