Our troop got permission from Nyoda Girl Scout Council to do this council's patch with a archaeological site in our state.

Archaeology IPP Requirements:
* indicates what our troop did (or when) to earn this requirement.
1. View a film strip at the Visitor's Center at the Prehistoric Indian Village in Mitchell, S.D.
OR
View a film strip from your public or school library on archaeology.
(Web Masters Note: A video would probably be accepted in place of a filmstrip.)
* Viewed video at San Luis Mission at Visitor Center. 11/14/99 (San Luis Mission is in Tallahassee, Florida)
2. Learn what archaeology sites teach us and how the findings help scientists.

3. Tour an archaeology site in South Dakota and make a report on what you saw.

4. Make a model of an early Indian dwelling - not a tepee.
*Made models of Spanish house and chief’s hut 12-16-99
5. Make a clay pot and fire it the way the Indians did.
6. Make a sketch of houses or tools used by prehistoric people.
7. Write a report about the various crops raised by prehistoric people.
8. Visit the garden site at the Prehistoric Indian Village in Mitchell, SD and either take pictures or make sketches of the garden site.

9. Learn to map a digging.
10. Help at a dig site for 2 hours.
* Helped at dig with sifting for artifacts, and we found several small pieces 11-14-99
11. Visit with either a past or present archaeologit about their digs and what they learned in regard to history.
* Visited with Heidi at San Luis Mission, saw artifacts she discovered.
12. Learn about another archaeology site in another state and report on their findings.
*Learned about the Five Points Site in New York, below is an internet site about it.
