Skill Builder:

SB #3: I made something from wood--a bird house.

SB #4: I visited "Lisa's Ceramics" in our town, she offers courses in ceramic painting. I compared the costs of different courses she offered and she is willing to teach our troop.

Technology:

T #3: Technology has made stenciling available to anyone through the use of plastic stencils. They can be found in many stores varying in price. I stenciled the birdhouse I made as well as some wooden napkin holders donated to the local nursing home.

T #4: I visited a woodsorker's shop and he demonstrated how to use a jigsaw, a plane, a router, and a finishing sander. He discussed safety precautions before and during the demonstrations. Some in particular are: to wear safety glasses or eye protection, always be aware of where your tools are, turn off any electrical tools when not in use and careful handling electrical tools.

Service Projects:

SP #1: I helped to teach younger girls how to stencil and helped them make wooden bird houses like mine.

SP #2: I painted and stenciled wooden napkin holders and donated them to the local nursing home for their diningroom tables at Christmas time.

Career Exploration:

CE #1: While visiting Lisa's Ceramics, I interviewed Ms. Lisa. She got started as a young girl interested in painting and art. She went onto college and got a degree in Art, she first taught school as an art teacher. After her first child was born she decided that she wanted to stay home and then decided to open a ceramic shop. She teaches painting along with selling ceramics pieces unfinished and finished. She offers a class twice a week to anyone. She showed me how to pour molds and how to fire them.
