We began this IP at a campout last year and decided to complete it this year. It comes from the old IP book. We completed the following activities and we include other resources for finding different games to use:
#1 Card Games: We played a new type of card game called "Snip, Snap, Snorem"
found in 101 Best Family Card Games by Alfred Sheinwold
Board Games: We learned the ancient game of Nine Man Morris
Electronic Games : We played Katie's new Nintendo '64 Mario Kart game
Target Games: We learned archery at camp
Tile Games: We played a new type of Dominoes called "Concentration".
#2
We learned the following cooperative games at camp and will teach them to Juniors in
January:
Card House: Each team uses as many cards as possible to build their card house. Each
team member must add at least seven cards to the structure. The object is to build the
tallest structure using regular playing cards.
Planks: Each team stands on two planks, one foot on each plank. The planks are even at
the starting line. The goal is to move the planks to a goal 8 feet away without members
standing on anything but the planks.
Boop: 4-6 people hold hands in a circle and try to keep the balloon off the ground by
batting the balloon with parts of their body, including their hands which must remain
clasped. If the balloon touches the ground, the group loses their hands. As the balloon
continues to touch the ground, remove additional parts of the body with which they are
allowed to bat the balloon. If they lose their feet, they are out.
Touch My Can: Put one soda can on the ground. The object is for the entire group (at
least 10) to make physical contact with the can without touching one another. Hair longer
than 4" from the head does not count as a point of contact.
Count Off: Group sits in a circle. Without a cue and with no pre-determined order, the
groups tries to count to 10. No person may say consecutive numbers. No pattern may be
established. If two people say the same number, the group must start over.
#4
We learned the following games from other countries and will teach them to Juniors in
January:
The Serpent (France) : Draw the outline of a serpent on smooth level ground. Dig a small
hole for the serpent's eye. The first player shoots a marble long the serpents body from
the tail. The other player take their turns until everyone has had a go and then the first
player goes again. Any marble which goes outside the serpent's body must go back to the
serpent's tail and start over. The first player to get their marble into the serpent's eye is the
winner.
