(Note: SB=Skill Builder, T=Technology, SP=Service Project, CE=Career Exploration)

We did Skill Builders 1,2,5,6; Technology #6; Service Projects #4; and Career Exploration #1. One girl did Service #1 instead of Skill #6. For this IPP, we met mostly at the leader's home so the girls could use her computer.

Skill Builder:

SB #1: They studied a variety of newspapers and magazines--English and American and noted some differences in design. Then, decided to create a magazine ad for their High School (which was a private school overseas). They had to decide what to feature and the group they were trying to reach--parents? students? supporters? and created an ad to attract that group.
SB #2: We looked at a variety of fliers that had come to us in the post. The girls also critiqued posters around school. Then they created a flier, using the computer, to announce the new Web page they created for the neighborhood in Service #3
SB #5: We looked at logos on a couple of household products, then surfed the web to find other logos. They each then created their own logos for products or services they would like to see. We critiqued each others to see if we thought the logo represented what the creator thought.
SB #6: We created greeting cards on a home computer. This was a bit tricky as we didn't have special software, but we used Clarisworks Draw and worked it out.

Technology:
T #6: We went surfing the web again, looking at various webpages, including the GSUSA site at http://www.gsusa.org to look at differences between sites aimed at kids and sites aimed at adults. Sometimes the kids sites are MORE user friendly--which we thought was interesting because sometimes the kids are better than the adults at surfing! We looked at artwork, use of words, fonts, color, and overall layout in deciding whether a site was good or not. We also looked at colleges and universities, geocities homepages, and business pages.

Service Projects:
SP #3: We designed a webpage for our Lone Troop Committee Overseas. You can visit the site at http://www.oocities.org/Yosemite/Trails/4765 We also created a troop subpage. SP #1: The girl who did this was editor of the high school yearbook.

Career Exploration:
CE #1: the leader's husband is an intellectual property attorney. He came to one of the meetings and gave an overview of copyright law and about current issues copyright protection.
