Exploring the Net

Two troops have submitted info on earning this IPP. Links are listed below their credit lines.

First troop:
The girls met at my house or another one to work on this.

Skill Builders

SB #3: The girls did this by doing web searches and visited a number of domains using the search engine from #4.

SB #4: The girls did this one first to learn how to use a search engine, then with those skills did SB#3.

SB #6: They already could send e-mail, but they learned how to send attachments by e-mailing a document to me and also did the cost comparisons.

SB #7 they "visited" Paris on the internet. Some of the sites included the Louvre, the Carte du Musee, general Paris info.

Technology:

T #1: read articles in computer magazines and talked to the computer teacher at school.

Service Project

SP #5, my daughter introduced her grandfather to the internet and he ended up buying a personal computer! Another girl did the same thing.

SP #1set up a really great scavenger hunt on her personal website and asked people to come visit it (she's taken it down now though).

Career Exploration

CE #2. One of the girls, as a result of this search, identified the schools with the "best" journalism schools and finally identifiedthe college she wanted to attend. She is now enrolled at Northwestern U. in the Journalism school--her first choice based on her research done at troop meetings! (The girls were interviewed by e-mail for an article in GS Leader magazine and Sara described the process she went through. She credits this exercise with helping her narrow down her interests and find the right college.)
