Paddle, Pole, and Roll

(Note: SB=Skill Builder, T=Technology, SP=Service Project, CE=Career Exploration)

Skill Builder:

SB1: Demonstrated ability to go under and back up to the surface of the water confidently and in your comfort level in the water while wearing a PFD. I did this at our council camp preparing to go on a council canoe campout for Cadettes and Seniors.

SB2: For the council's canoe campout we had to go on two canoe pretrips. On the pretrips and campout:a) we balanced the canoe and got it into the water safely, b) start, stop, dock, and beached the canoe, c) paddled straight 50 yards (or more), d) paddled backwards 50 yards (or more), e) go sideways 50 yards, f) make left and right turns and turn 360 degrees, g) swamp the canoe and paddle back to shore, and h) lift and carry the canoe properly.

SB3: On the pre-trips and campout, I had to demonstrate different strokes.

SB7: Planned and took part in a three-day canoe/campout trip, there were 3 pre-trip meetings which included planning and canoe trips to prepare for the actual trip.

Technology:

T3: As part of the pre-trip planning, we met at the outdoor supply store where the canoes were rented. While there, we learned about construction of canoes, water clothing, and supplies.

Service Project:

SP4: Demonstrated how to choose a PFD. Shared information about the role of clothing to prevent hypothermia.

Career Exploration

CE1: Found out about skills/age/certification requirements for a job as a river guide from the two river guides that accompanied us on our pre-trips.
