* We fulfilled this IPP at a weekend campout.
Skill Builders:
SB #1: We made a collection of samples of different fibers: synthetic and non. We made a folder with the samples including their special uses and care.
SB #4: We learned how to finger weave, straw weave, and do Poi weaving from New Zealand. The first two were demonstrated by a weaver and his daughter (also a Girl Scout). The third had been learned the summer before by one of the troop's members and she taught the rest of us. We taught these to younger Girl Scouts.
Technology:
T #1: We made a cardboard loom and did plain weaving on it. We also used a wood-frame loom and did rya knots on it, the piece we worked on was to be completed by other scouts in the area and then hung in their scout hut. (The guest weaver is the father of one of their scouts). We also wove a belt.
T #4: We had a guest weaver who explained the use of the tools for weaving and the production methods.
Service Project:
SP #1: We checked out our troop's supply of crafts and made sure the ones we have are durable.
SP #5: ***Note: this is not in the book, but our leader thought this was a good service project.*** We use metal looms and made 15 potholders for the local Meals on Wheels program.
Career Explorations:
CE #1: We made homemade Christmas ornaments one year that we sold as a fundraiser. Another year we made different crafts for a bazaar at Christmas time. Decorative baskets, pins, and tree ornaments.
CE #2: We interviewed our guest weaver and graphic designer. Also interviewed our leader had studied fashion design and is/has been a seamstress.
