I don’t have a daddy. Mommy says he is in heaven. She says he is an angel watching over me. I have my very own angel! But I would rather have a daddy.

Mommy says I should not cry about not having a daddy. She says I did once, and he loved me very much. But God missed daddy and wanted daddy to be with him. I say that God is mean and selfish if he takes daddies away from their children just because he misses them. Mommy says I shouldn’t say bad things about God and I will understand when I am older. I wish I was older now, because there are so many things I won’t know till then. I think I dreamed about daddy last night, but I’m not sure. I never remember the good dreams only the bad ones. I don’t know why that is. Maybe I will understand when I am older.

My room was really bright when I woke up. I like it when that happens. Some days it is dark and cold. Other days it is really light. Mommy says it has to do with saving daylight or something. I don’t know what that means. I am just waiting to get older so I can figure out what that is.

Mommy helped me pick out my clothes last night. I am big enough to dress myself now. Only mommy has to help me pick out what I am going to wear. Cause if she doesn’t she said I will pick out something that doesn’t match. I said that matching clothes look boring, and it is more fun to be mismatched. She made a deal with me and said I could wear weird clothes to bed, but nice clothes outside. I agreed and we shook on it.

It takes me a while to get dressed because there were so many buttons on my shirt. Mommy comes in and asks me if I want help. I say no, and that I can do it myself. She says I am very stubborn and that I get that from daddy. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. But I guess it is a good thing because she smiled when she said it.

When I finally finish getting my clothes on I put on my necklace. It’s a very pretty necklace, and very special too. It has my name on it and a pretty little pearl. Mommy says I look just like a princess when I wear it. I like looking like a princess. Aunt Abby gave it too me when I was very little. I thank Aunt Abby all the time for making me a princess. She says that I am princess even without the necklace. Aunt Abby is really cool.

After I put my necklace on I walk down the stairs. Mommy can hear me coming because she tells me too be careful. I don’t know how she knows when I am coming. Maybe she is just really smart. That’s probably it.

Mommy makes me French toast for breakfast. I love French toast; it’s my favorite. She always says stuff in French when she makes it. I think it sounds really pretty. She says I can learn it in school when I am older. But I don’t think I will ever sound as good as mommy.

Mommy has a really pretty voice. It’s different then other people’s voices. She says it’s an accent. See, my mommy grew up far away. Across an ocean and everything! She moved here a while ago, and this is where she met my dad. She likes it much better here then where she use to live. Mommy is really special. I love my mommy.

I ask mommy where I am going today. Sometimes I go to the day care center at mommy’s work. Other days I got to Aunt Abby and Uncle Carter’s. I like it at Aunt Abby and Uncle Carter’s better. Mommy tells me we are going to Aunt Abby’s. That makes me smile. I love it there.

When I finish my French toast mommy cleans my plate and tells me to get my shoes on. It takes me a while to find them. Mommy teases me and tells me that I should do what she tells me to do and put them in the same place every day. I make a face at her and she makes one back. She looks for my shoes some more and finally finds them behind the sofa. She slips them on my feet very quickly. Much faster then I could have done it.

The ride in the car was quick. Uncle Carter and Aunt Abby don’t live very far away. When we pull up I jump out and run towards the door. Their house is big! Its got a brick front and a big red door. They even have a basketball hoop! If it’s a nice day Uncle Carter will take me outside and we will "shoot hoops." And sometimes Aunt Abby comes out to play too. But Uncle Carter makes fun of her because she isn't as good as him. But I don’t think Aunt Abby minds because she always gives him a kiss before she goes inside.

When I get to the door I push the doorbell. I like doing that. I don’t know why, but I do. After a few seconds Uncle Carter opens the door and picks me up and swings me over his shoulder. I scream and start kicking my legs like I always do. Then my mommy tells him to be careful with me. He always says he would never, ever hurt me cause I’m a princess. Then he flips me over and puts me on the ground. Then my mom starts giving him phone numbers and stuff, but I never stay around long enough to hear all of them. I always run into the living room as fast as I can!

When I get there Aunt Abby is sitting on the couch. She is reading a magazine or something. I don’t know what it was called because the last word was a big word, but it was fit something or other. Anyway, Madison is sitting in front of the TV playing dolls or something. Madison is fun! She’s two years younger then me though it doesn’t seem like that cause she acts like me and seems just as smart. She and I always play together when I am at her house. She has a really big doll collection! She says that her great-gamma always buys her dolls and stuff for her birthday and Christmas. My grandma does too, but Maddie’s are always bigger and cost more money. Maddie is the luckiest girl in the whole world, because she has a lot of dolls, and toys, and she has a mommy and a daddy. And she is even going to have a little brother! Maddie is my very bestest friend!

Maddie and I play for a little while. She shows me the new baby’s room. It’s painted blue because it’s a boy! My room is purple and Maddie’s room is light pink because we are girls, but you can’t have a boy’s room be pink! The new baby’s room is big, and has lots of little pictures on the wall and stuff. I ask Maddie if she wants a little brother, and she says that she can’t wait because it gets lonely when she has to go to day care. But if she has a brother she won’t be as lonely. I don’t think Maddie knows that her brother won’t be able to walk or talk for a while. Maddie is so silly!

Then I hear Aunt Abby’s voice calling me and Maddie to lunch. We both run down the stairs as quick as we can, and Aunt Abby tells us to be careful or we will break our necks. When I get to the kitchen I see two grilled cheese sandwiches and two glasses of milk set out on the table. There are also chips on each plate. I quickly sit down and pop a chip in my mouth. It’s sour cream and onion! I love sour cream and onion, but my mommy never buys them for some weird reason. I grin and stuff more chips in my mouth. Aunt Abby laughs because she says I look silly with my mouth full of chips. I smile really big and she laughs harder, saying that I shouldn’t smile so big with my mouth so full. I don’t answer, just shove more chips in my mouth. She tells me to slow down, and that no one is going to take the food of my plate. I tell her that that would be silly, because there is plenty of food for everyone.

Just then Uncle Carter comes in and walks over to where me and Maddie are sitting. He leans over my plate and takes a chip, saying that it’s his "tax." He smiles and chomps down on it. Aunt Abby laughs and I glare at him. He took my chip! I then say, "Yes huh Aunt Abby, he took my chip! He took my chip off my plate!" Aunt Abby laughs and hits Uncle Carter with a dishrag, saying that he shouldn’t "tease the girls" I glare at him again, but then I start to laugh because he is making a funny face. Uncle Carter is so funny.

After lunch Maddie and I watch some TV. But we get really bored really fast because the shows aren’t very interesting. So instead we ask Aunt Abby to read us a story. She smiles and says, "of course." So we all go into the den and pick out a book. Maddie wants the three little pigs, but I want green eggs and ham. Finally Aunt Abby says that we will read green eggs and ham, because green is my last name and I am the guest. Only it’s green without an e of course.

So well all curl up on the couch and Aunt Abby reads us green eggs and ham. It takes longer then when mommy reads it to me because Maddie wants to stare at the pictures forever. But I don’t mind because I like it when it takes longer. Finally we finish Aunt Abby closes the book and puts it on the table. Suddenly she smiles and takes both our hands and puts them on her stomach. At first I am confused, because I have never done this before. Then I feel something hit my hand and I laugh. Maddie laughs too. Maddie asks her what it is and Aunt Abby says it is the baby kicking. That makes me very curious because I have never felt a baby inside a tummy kick before. But it’s really cool!

Before I know it the sun is setting and my mommy comes to pick me up. Aunt Abby helps me gather up my stuff and put on my shoes. Then I go to the front door where mommy is waiting for me. I give Aunt Abby a kiss on the cheek and Uncle Carter a big hug. Maddie smiles and me and I smile back. Mommy thanks them and we go to the car. When we get in the car mommy asks me what I did today. I tell her all about Uncle Carter stealing my food and the baby kicking. Mommy tells me that I use to do that a lot too when I was in her tummy. I don’t remember doing that, but mommy tells me I’m not supposed to remember it. I believe her because she is very smart.

When we get home I go up to my room and change into my pajamas. Then mommy comes up the stairs and we go into the bathroom and brush our teeth together. I have a special stool that I stand on so I can see myself in the mirror. We do that for a couple minutes then we both rinse and spit at the same time. Then my mommy picks me up and carries me into my bedroom and plops me down on the bed like she always does. Then she tickles me and I start screeching and laughing. I guess I got to loud because mommy stopped and shushed me. She says we will wake up the neighbors. I laugh and she pulls the covers up around my waist.

I ask her to tell me a story. She stops and thinks for a minute, and then she says she has the perfect story to tell. So she tells me the story and a few minutes later she says "the end." I ask her what story that was because I had never heard it before. She tells me that it’s about her and daddy. I laugh and say that that was the best story of all time if it was about her. She laughs and kisses me on the head. She starts to get up but I stop her by asking her why my daddy had to go to heaven and someone else’s daddy didn’t.

Mommy doesn’t answer at first, I don’t think she knows what to say. Finally she tells me that god has a plan for all of us, and that we can’t do anything about it. She says that God wanted daddy in heaven and wanted me to just have a mommy around. I tell her that that doesn’t make a lot of sense. She says that it didn’t make a lot of sense to her at first either. Then she tells me not to worry about not having a daddy because I have her and she has me and all we need is each other. "Just the two of us" she tells me. I giggle and say "just the two of us" also.

She kisses me on the head and tells me she loves me and daddy loves me. I tell her I love her too and she shuts my door. I go to sleep and dream about my daddy again. But when I wake up I only have a mommy. But that’s okay, because we are doing just fine, just the two of us. I kinda like it with just the two of us.
