What's in the Garden????!!!
Well, Baby it's cold outside! But, that's not stopping me.

The beds are turned under and fluffed...waiting for the first pesky weeds to show themselves...
Todd has sharpened the pruners and is ready to attack the dead wood in the orchards as well as the blackberrie bramble and my roses.

When the temperatures stay above 40 degrees as night, it is our signal to spray the orchard with Dormant Oil, which will smother any insects that survived the winter!

The black plastic will go down on the beds that will hold hot weather crops (tomatoes; peppers; squash; tomatillos, and ocra). This will warm the soil through March, and make it possible to get a jump start on the season in April.

St. Patricks day is my bench mark! Whoo Hoo! The day after St. Pat's it's time to plant: potatoes; peas; carrots; lettuce; mesclun salad mix; spinach; greens; cabbage; leeks; onions; shallots; and beets.

This year I'm excited about my Chioggia Beets...organic seed from The Cooks Garden, candy striped red and white inside! This should be a treat!

Resist the urge to put your bean seeds in until your soil is Definitely near 60 degrees...they will rot! I lost 50 feet of Butter beans last year due to my impatience!

We're experimenting with straw mulch in the pathways this year to try and stave off the weeds, and expanding our drip irrigation a little! I AM SO READY!!!!

Happy planting!
