GDCC was officially started in 2000. We are people who live in the community and want to help in our community. We originally started the group to stop the fields (on Carrbottom Rd and Harrogate Rd) being taken out of Green belt and being built on. We then got asked to help out with other issues, we helped to get a new street light erected, we also raised money to be able to buy a bench in the Cenotaph in memory of one of our members. We also worked with Bradford Council sending out questionnaires, whther to keep the Cenotaph where it is where the improvements are made to Greengates traffic lights. The result was the majority of people wanted the Canotaph to be kept where it is, but said that they do agree in taking some of the garden, to widen the New Line Rd.

Through GDCC, we set up another group Greengates Memories. We had our first meeting in May 2002, and it proved to be very popular, we now have a members list of around 50 people. We have found that a lot of people are interested in the history of Greengates and the surrounding areas. We have gathered lots of photographs and stories, but we are always looking for more, we will copy the photo's given to us and send the originals back to the rightful owners. If anyone would like a copy of one of the photo's we have, we will be happy to copy them for a small fee to help raise money for the group. We are a voluntary group, we are always looking for more volunteers. We have been given funding by the Local Heritage Initiative.
We run from St. Johns Church Hall, Harrogate Road Greengates. We have our meetings the first Wednesday of every month, 2-4pm. Entrance is 50p and 25p for Tea/Coffee/Biscuits.
We are a fiendly and informal group, and always like to see new faces! Feel free to come to any of our meetings, to see our photo's, stories or just for a chat

Feel free to post your views on the site, any questions/ideas about the community.
Special thanks to our funding
