Inner-Logan gives Logan a little well-deserved ass-kicking in this 100. He's been knocking around inside Marie's head for the past three years and he's seen her go through a pretty rough time getting over him. And he's mad because he thinks Logan could have showed a little more compassion for "the kid" as he liked to call her. After all, she saved his life. So I thought, what if Inner-Logan is having an inner monologue with the guy who left her behind and never even called while he was away? This came about because of the tone of Marie's voice in X2 when she introduced Bobby to Logan. There was hesitation on her part, but there was also pride and a little bit of "I've got myself a real man who can whup yo' ass" in her voice. She's proud of Bobby's mutant power and I think she's tickled by the impromptu pissing match the boys have when they shake hands. Nicks wrote this song on her wedding day. She married Kim Anderson in 1983, the widower of her dearest friend, Robin Snyder. Robin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1982 and then became pregnant. When she passed away in the fall of '82, she left behind Kim and their son, Matthew. It seemed that Stevie and Kim were the only ones who could comfort each other and decided they should get married because she was determined to take care of Matthew. There's a wonderful musing on the meaning of "Stand Back" written by Sharon and posted on Nancy Kern's fabulous website, BuckinghamNicks.Net. Stevie herself writes: "Stand Back" comes from a place unknown even to me. A hush surrounded it from the very beginning...and a feeling that it had always been was there from the first. "Stand Back" lives in it's own timespace. It never belonged to me, it has always belonged to the world...and to Prince, who inspired the entire song. |
