The Green Room
December 2002

If you have missed all the holiday productions the area has held, you still have one more weekend to catch Arena Dinner Theatre's production of SCROOGE. The musical features all the songs from the 1970 Albert Finney movie, including "I Hate People," "Thank You Very Much," and "I Like Life." The show is a musical spin on Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL, in which Scrooge's subconscious tells him he's not living the life he should. The book, lyrics, and score are by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Doctor Doolittle, and Goodbye, Mr. Chips). Tickets are $25 for dinner and the show. The production runs through December 22.

If you missed THE EIGHT REINDEER MONOLOGUES, you missed the farewell production of The Alternative Theatre in downtown Fort Wayne. According to Tom Young, who appeared in the production, the lease to the Loft, which housed the Alternative Theatre, is not being renewed.

Local actor and Ball State University musical theatre student Tony Sirk was recently cast as Henrik in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at Ball State. Courtney Elmore, a favorite at the Pulse Opera House in Warren, was one of only 4 freshmen who were called back. Courtney wasn't cast, but she almost had to miss the callback. "Just imagine having to choose between seeing a play so you can pass Acting 1 or going to a callback so you can get cast in a show!" she says.

Young Stephen Willard hit the boards in November as a soldier in a professional ballet company's production of The Nutcracker at the Merillat Center for the Arts at Huntington College. His proud mother Linda, another mainstay at the Pulse, reports that the experience was very exciting and nerve-wracking.
