SHAKESPEARE UNDER THE STARS

Ball State University presents MACBETH July 15-19. This production is part of "Shakespeare Under the Stars," presented at Minnetrista Cultural Center. The show is directed by Dr. Judy Yordan and features Ball State students, community members and Equity actors. Macbeth is played by Joshua Coomer, Lady Macbeth is Carrie Schlatter-Schwer and Banquo is played by Ft. Wayne's own David Mitsch. Admission is free. Bring a blanket, a picnic and a friend to see this modern adaptation of one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies.

MORE SHAKESPEARE

Director Phil Kasper of the Monroe County Civic Theatre seeks "hard-working actors who are ready and willing to jump in and swim around in the muck of Shakespeare." He needs to cast three male actors to fill out the cast in a Bloomington production of HAMLET this summer. Roles to be filled are the Ghost, Polonius, and Hamlet. Performances run August 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 8:00 p.m. in Bloomington. Kasper will consider actors of any age for these roles. AND STILL MORE SHAKESPEARE

Tad Atkinson directs ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL for Shakespeare from the Heart, benefitting the League for the Blind and Disabled. Performances are July 5 and 12 at 7:00 p.m. and July 6 and 13 at 2:00 p.m. and will be in Franke Park, behind the Psi Iota nature pavillion.

Atkinson is also collaborating on Jeff Jacobson's play AUDITIONING JESUS, to be produced by Jacobson's company, The Reclamation Project, the focus of which is to purchase and renovate the old Rialto Theatre in downtown Fort Wayne.

THE SECOND CITY AT THE SCOTTISH RITE

Back by popular demand, the Scottish Rite Center welcomes "The Second City," Chicago’s legendary comedy troupe, on Saturday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. The tour features some of the best sketches, songs and improvisations from The Second City’s forty-plus year history. "The Second City" is an official Three Rivers Festival event. Reserved seating tickets are $12.00 with an official TRF button or for groups of 20 or more.

GREG STIEBER TO DIRECT GEORGE FURTH PREMIERE

Sources inform me that playwright George Furth, the librettist of Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY, has asked Fort Wayne director Greg Stieber to direct the premiere of his new play SEX, SEX, SEX, SEX, SEX, SEX, SEX. Performances will be this month at IPFW's Studio Theatre.

FORTNEY ENTERPRISES RADIO THEATRE

Fortney Enterprises has completed the radio adaptation of Monty Fortney's comedy IS THIS THE RIGHT RESTAURANT? Plans are to sell copies of the adaptation at area productions or to have it broadcast on a radio station.

WHERE'S CHARLEY? AT IPFW

IPFW's American Classics Summer Musical WHERE'S CHARLEY? will be presented at Williams Theatre July 11-20.

The mistaken identity features Dan Ambrose as Charley, who poses as his own aunt when his girlfriend Amy (Kaitlin Fumarolo) and her friend Kitty (Emilie Henry) visit. Thursday July 17 will be sign language interpreted. Braille program books are also available for each performance.

Director Larry Life played the title character during a national tour. Actor Dan Ambrose will also direct the "mob" comedy BREAKING LEGS by Tom Dulack at the Arena Dinner Theatre. The play replaces 6 RMS/RV VU as Arena's 2003-04 season opener.

WEDDINGS

Ric Geist and Beverly McCavitt, who met during a 1997 production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, will be married on July 5. Also getting married on July 5 is Jon Sandmaier, former employee of the Civic Theater, who has taken a new job at Icon Exhibits. First Presbyterian Theatre director Thom Hofrichter and actress Nancy Kartholl were married on June 9 on a Maui beach. IPFW theatre students Mark Dunn and Bridget Bannec will be married in August.
