The Adventure Begins!

After a six-year hiatus, I am getting back to quilting, and finding a new creative voice. In the interim, I have learned to bead and to paint on fabric with Tsukineko Inks (thanks to a great class by Sharon Schamber).

The earliest quilts perfected my hand-appliqué skills (with gratitude to Pat Campbell and my mom). They are all miniatures (smallest about 11"x15")and were part of my Green Sheep Designs pattern line, and so the time required to complete them had to be minimal (samples are hand appliquéd and machine quilted). When I thought about actually attempting some of the more challenging designs flying around in my imagination, I knew they would be major undertakings if I didn't learn to machine appliqué!

I did learn through doing the pattern line that I was attracted to folk art - mostly colonial American, and early medieval European, to symbolism - colonial American, medieval and Christian, and to bold color strokes and well-defined shapes - typical of folk art across cultures. This will all be important to the phase I am entering now, I'm sure of it.
