Landfill Site: Looks Pretty Wet to Us
These photographs were taken by Grady Simmons, whose land adjoins that of the proposed landfill at Clewis Corner, near the Columbus County and Brunswick County line off Hwy 211. Click on the thumbnail pictures for full-size view.
AFTER A RAIN . . .
Proposed land fill site
Pictures taken January 21, 2001.  Most recent rain was two days earlier, January 19.

AFTER HURRICANE FLOYD . . .
Along Hwy 211 at Grady's place (looking south).  Proposed landfill site adjoins his property to the west.
But, they say, all this is outside the flood plain, no danger of standing water.

Grady Simmons, lifelong resident of the Green Swamp and one of its staunchest
defenders, passed away peacefully June 8, 2004 in the Green Swamp home he loved.

Grady was a founding member of the Friends of the Green Swamp, was its assistant
chairman, and a good friend to us all. He will be sorely missed.
