There are several different versions of the 911 first introduced in the later half of the the 20th century. There are two wheel drive versions, All wheel drive versions, Cabriolet (Convertible) versions, a Targa Top version and the all important Turbo Version.
Some people include the slope nose version in as a 911 but it is actually a 930 until the 3.6 turbo version where Porsche offered a special edition slope-nose 3.6 turbo.
The way the 911 is set up, with the engine in the back over the tires make it one of the best layouts for a 50/50 weight distrabution. Another oddity that Porsche has is their ignition is on the left hand side of the steering column. Which I like, because it gives the 911 a bit of flavor to anotherwise very functional and well laid out dash. With so many to choose from which one do I like the best? Well I liked the 1997 911 Turbo but those wheels were ungodly and now that they got the 2000 Turbo rolling out I really like that one. But I still love the 3.6 turbo just for the older look to it and the missing all wheel drive system.
With a great new body style and rims that I could get to like and the best of all the newer, bigger, badder and better engine. The coolest gadget on the Turbo is the new spoiler which at something like a hundred miles an hour it pops up to aid in downforce. While driving the driver can also activate it too.
Later in 2000 it well be getting another face lift to make it more of a 911 and less of a Boxer have you thought of that much? About just how much the 2000 911 Cabriolet looks a lot like a Porsche Boxer? Just as long as they stay away from that annoying front air dam of the 2000 911 Turbo. To me it looks like all those crazy little pimped out Hondas and Toyotas, Porsche can stay away from that kind of stuff.
Since the 2000 Turbo has been introduced The actual car looks sweet and that annoying little RICEBOY Honda air dam got grew on me.
Another one of the cool things about Porsche is the man who makes them even better. RUF is not an aftermarket tuning company like you might find for your Volkswagen or Audi. Instead RUF takes a Porsche strips it down and makes it better, much better. Ruf was responsible for introducing the first six speed manumatic transmission like you would find in the GT1 race cars. Ruf is also responsible for pushing everyday Porsches past the 200 mph marker. Some of the famous RUF's are the Yellowbird and the 911CTR.
Not only are Porsches great road cars they are sweet race cars. For years Porsche was the car to beat winning numorous races in several types of races.
Racing Supercup water cooled 911 vs the air cooled 911
This Porsche happens to be the last air cooled Supercup racer.
While this Porsche is the next generation with a whole new watercooled engine.
Here are the two Porsches side by side for a good comparison.
Anyway, here are some pictures of Porsche 911s that I've found and downloaded from various sources. As a friend once told me you have to own atleast one Porsche in your lifetime or your missing part of life. Right now this is as close as some of us can get.
Just some more Porsche pictures for your enjoyment.
