A VISIT TO THE DENVER LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM
(Click on images to enlarge. All links open in a new window.)
Our excursion starts with the free shuttle bus along the transit mall.
We find a train waiting at the station at 18th and Stout.
A map of the system can be found posted on the station shelter.
The Denver light rail system predates the advent of low-floor light rail vehicles. Passengers must climb steps into the train from curb level platforms. Ramps are arranged to provide level-floor loading of the front doors of the train for wheelchair passengers. The driver must deploy a bridge plate to span from the floor of the vehicle to the top of the ramp.
The station at 16th and California is similar.
Here is a train approaching Union Station exiting from an exclusive right of way to the right of way on city streets.
Light rail passengers might be predisposed to agree with the sign at the front of Union Station. The platforms at Union Stations are arranged to allow passengers to allow the doors on both sides of the trains to be utilized.
We'll leave the line at 16th and Stout. |
