Deadsy - Commencement
My Thoughts: (Reviewed by O. Anderson)
Deadsy's own frontman, Elijah Blue, once referred to his band as, "the best kept f***ing secret", and, in my opinion, they are. Even though this is Deadsy's one and only CD, it has been on and off the shelves since 1997. I find it odd that this band never made it big, considering they were discovered by Korn's Jonathan Davis, and frontman Blue is the offspring of pop diva Cher. I personally consider this band to be one of my top ten, and this, their only album, to be one of my top twenty favourites. Some claim that they sound too much like other bands, but when I hear this, I say, "Huh?" They sound NOTHING like other bands! They do find their influences, I assume, from past techno-ish bands, like the Cure, but in this day and age, they can be compared to no other band, save Orgy. I find them to be one of the most unique groups around. You may have heard their somewhat radio-friendly song, "The Key to Grammercy Park", which, while being awesome, is no where near the best song on the album. While containing heavy churning guitars and down-beat drums, the lyrics are deep and inspirational, and make this album sweet. You can find interesting love songs on tracks like "Brand New Love", and "Future Years". You'll also find a remake of Rush's "Tom Sawyer", which, in my opinion, is awesomely done. Otherwise, you can expect electronic drums and weird keyboard sounds. Their weird image may give a bad impression, but don't let that get in the way. They really are a sick band, and, even if you're not into the techno stuff, you should check them out.
