Freddy Vs. Jason
The Plot:
A group of teenagers finds themselves stuck in the middle of a battle between two forces of evil: silent stalker Jason Voorhees (Hodder) and gabby dream master Freddy Krueger (Englund), as the battle wages from Elm Street to a climactic finale fought at Camp Crystal Lake. (From Yahoo Movies)
My Thoughts: (Reviewed by K-Billy)
From Director Ronny Yu comes the clash of two horror titans. Freddy vs. Jason begins with Freddy being forgotten, with no children having nightmares, Freddy has no more power. So he employs the always lovely Jason to do his dirty work for him, thus making the children afraid again and regaining power. But what is he going to do once Jason refuses to stop killing. I smell a showdown. Oh the poor kids caught in the middle.
This movies been a long time coming. Jason fans have always believed he could kick Freddy’s ass and the same goes for Freddy fans believing their believed horror icon could kick Jason’s ass. And ever since Freddy’s glove pulled Jason’s mask into the ground in the absolutely terrible Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, the rumors have been flying. So finally the good folks over at New Line have brought these two together.
Now granted if you’ve been watching either of these series over the years like me. You’d know that besides the original only a handful of the Nightmare movies were really any good. And after the fourth Friday the 13th, they were basically so formulatic that it was sickening. So to be honest I can’t say I was really expecting anything at all from this movie. While I did think that the idea of having Freddy use Jason was cool, it didn’t really execute all the well in the film. Although then again this is such a tired genre that I never thought the script would be worthy of anything. The biggest thing to know is that this is not a horror movie. Not at all, there was no tension, no angst, and I really couldn’t of cared about anyone who was getting killed. This wasn’t helped by the pretty awful acting by a group of young unknowns (never act again Kelly Rowland). All this movie is about, and rightfully so is seeing Freddy and Jason face off. They did make things interesting however, by showing Jason’s nightmares, in essence what happened to him as a child. But the big payoff of the movie is hands down the end when the two come to blows at Jason’s turf, camp crystal lake. What ensues is probably some of the most gory and bloody images shown in a film. But the violence is so violent that it’s not really disturbing. But is it ever fun to watch. As to who wins it’s really a toss up. And the ending is left wiiiide open for a sequel, almost cheaply so. In fact it’s so obvious it’s annoying. Of course this film falls into the same constraints of this genre, drugs, sex, and dumb teenagers. If you’re a fan of either series, see this movie just for the face off. If you’re looking for a good horror movie watch something like The Ring, or The Sixth Sense, hell even the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is a better horror film for the slasher fan. Not necessarily dissapointing, but definitly not good.
