Third Eye Blind - Out Of The Vein
My Thoughts: (Reviewed by O. Anderson)
"Out
of the Vein" is the third album from the alternative rock band, Third
Eye Blind. While this album is really good, I find it somewhat lacking, and
it sucks that I have to state that at the beginning of the review, but it's
a necessary fact. Having briefly seen 3EB live at Fairfield University, I
felt pretty compelled to resurrect "Blue" from my dusty CD rack,
and buy "Out of the Vein". The result: a mix of excitement and...
disappointment? I'm not sure. The first five tracks show extreme energy, and
intelligent lyrics and song writing. "Blinded", one of the singles
from the album, is just amazing. The lyrics are clever, the music is great.
The next few tracks are just as promising. However, after "Crystal Baller",
the downward slope begins. I find that the energy just disappeared. The lyrics
aren't very interesting, the music is pretty bland. I don't know how to explain
it, but it just happened. Songs like "Misfits" just don't hold the
same prowess as older songs like "Narcolepsy" or "Wounded".
If you're looking for a good alternative album, go with "Blue",
or the debut self-titled disc. I'm not sure if I'd recommend a purchase of
"Out of the Vein", but definitely download some songs.
