The Matrix Reloaded
The Plot:
Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, and the rest of their crew continue to battle the machines that have enslaved the human race in the Matrix. Now, more humans are waking up out of the matrix and attempting to live in the real world. As their numbers grow, the battle moves to Zion, the last real-world city and center of human resistance. My
Thoughts: (Reviewed by K-Billy)
The
Matrix Reloaded is a gem of an action film. It is a sequel that lives up to
the original which is a rare thing these days. Picking up where The Matrix
(1999) left off, Reloaded moves the story along with the revelation that Smith
has found a way to copy himself in the Matrix and that the machines are sending
a massive army to annihilate the last human city of Zion. It is this city
that was only hinted about in the first film that is now revealed to the viewer
in Reloaded. Zion is an underground living quarter where the free humans are
clustered in a small area. This city is an impressive achievement in CG effects
that convincingly conveys the feelings of these people.
The love story of Trinity and Neo unfolds culminating in a strange dance scene intercut with the two having sex. However the main piece of Reloaded is in Neo’s quest to make his way to the main frame. To end the war…or so he thinks. However there are a few people who stand in his way, the Merovingian for example. A frenchman with a powerful gang of forgotten programs who holds the key to Neo’s quest, literally, and the always problematic Agent Smith. Who has now gained the ability to duplicate himself within the Matrix. This leads to an unbelievably cool battle between Neo and around a hundred Agent Smiths, beautifully blending CG and live action.
Which brings me to the best thing about this movie. The action. Make no mistake this movie is rich with intelligent dialogue and philosphy but it is at heart an action film. There are numerous breathtaking sequences of unrelenting out of this world action. Including a stunning freeway chases with cars and bullets flying that culminates in the head on collision of two sixteen wheelers. There is a scene where Neo is confronted with facing the Merovingian’s henchman and halts the bullets from their automatic guns in impressive fashion. The reason this movie works so well is that it entertains. While keeping the story smart, and expanding on the ideas of the first it allows the viewer a fullfilling feeling. And to see the action sequences in this film that make the Lobby Scene of the original look tame is to be swept away in the mastery of it’s making. The fact stands that the Matrix Reloaded is one of the better sequels to any movie, and moves along the Matrix trilogy in exciting fashion.
