Smashing Pumpkins - Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
My Thoughts: (Reviewed by O. Anderson)
One giant leap for mankind... in my opinion, one of the greatest alternative rock albums of all time, from one of the greatest alternative rock bands of all time, the Smashing Pumpkins. One cannot go wrong with this album, no matter what kind of music you're into. This double-disc set supplies for some of the best head-banging or feel-sorry-for-yourself or snap-your-fingers tunes that I've ever heard. Billy Corgan, in my opinion, one of the great song-writers of our day, never ceases to blow my mind with his music, and he certainly drove the act home with the album. It begins with the soft "Mellon Collie..." and "Tonight, Tonight", and then dives right into the hard rock of "Jellybelly" and the most popular tune "Zero", which each feature some sick lyrics and guitars. The rest of the album follows suit, containing hard, fast paced songs, like "Bullet With the Butterfly Wings", or slow, calming songs, like "To Forgive" or "In the Arms of Sleep". Of course, how can one forget "1979", which was nominated for a Grammy. Again, on this album, we see the never-ending talents of this amazing alt band: the music, and amazing lyrics. I deem this album one of the bests of our day.
