Dr. Warrier conferred Mar Gregorios award

President K.R. Narayan today president the third Paulos Mar Gregorios Award for Holistic Medicine to Dr. P.K. Warrier, Chief Physician and Managing Trustee of the Kottakkal Arya- Vaidyasala of Kerela.

The Award instituted by the Sophia Society in memory of its founder Dr. Paulos Mar Gregories, renowned philosopher and educationist, carries Rs. one lakh in cash and a citation.

Dr. Warrier, 80, is a known practitioner of ayurveda and the Kottakkal Aryavaidyasala has considerably expanded under his stewardship. He has made important contributions in restructuring and reactivating Ayurveda not only in India but around the world for the benefit of the suffering humanity.

The President stressed the need for applying scientific methods and research to ayurveda to get it recognized at the world level and ensuring quality and affordable products for the people patients and medical practitioners.

Only by doing such things we can further enhance the status of Ayurveda and complement other systems of medicines to tackle the medical and health problems the world over".

Mr. Narayanana said that the importance and relevance of Ayurveda as a holistic science of medicine has been recognized not only in India but also aboard. However, Ayurveda, which is a pioneer in preventive medicine, has, languished in developing itself due to absence of research and development. He pointed out that Dr. Warrier, who has devoted his entire life and career to rejuvenate Ayurveda for modern times, set up a full fledged Research and Development wing at the Kottayal Aryavaidyashala to achieve this purpose.

Through efforts of Dr. Warrier Kottayal Aryavadiyashala has acted as a poiner in manu areas of medical treatment. It has also sent a team of doctors to Russia for the treatment to victims of radiation from the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. The encouraging response and positive result obtained from Ayurvedic treatment of the victims have so much fascinated the Russian specialists that they have requested Indian Ayurvedic doctors to learn from then treatment and enrich their medical practice.
