[To the top]
I Don’t Wanna Cry became Mariah’s last single from her Mariah Carey album. She made the song at the time she was working with Michael Narada Walden (who worked with Whitney Houston). They created a few songs and they finally decided for a slow ballad. As the song was taped, Mariah still wanted to do some changes and Michael had a really hard time convincing her that the song is already perfect. She did not have that many experiences, but she wanted that this album would be very special. The song had all ranges and the beauty of Mariah’s voice.
The single entered the charts on April 6, 1991, on number 50 of Hot 100. It reached the top on May 25, 1991, making Mariah the only second artist (beside Jackson Five), who had her first four singles on number one. The song stayed on top for two weeks. The single was released only in two versions, without any remixes, but apparently it did not need that to become a favorite song of many people.

The clip is filmed in an orange tone, with Mariah walking around an empty stage. Behind here there are instruments and microphones set up for performance, but she is there all alone. She is later sitting on the floor, dressed in a white nightgown...
