 | Revolutionary Campaigns: In 1792 the 2eme Bn was garrisoned in Mezieres. From 1793-95 it served in l'Armee du Nord and was with Dumouriez during the invasion of Belgium. After this they were posted to garrison Mons. They participated in the invasion of Holland under Pichegru in 1794 and fought at Bergen-op-Zoom. In 1795 they were posted to l'Armee des Cotes-de-l'Ocean. The first amalgamation (21 March 1795) saw the Bn, become the 2eme Bn, 50eme Demi-Brigade-de-Bataille, together with the 3eme Bn, Volunteers de l'Oise and the 6eme de la Seinne Inferieur. From 1796-98 formed part of l'Armee de l'Ouest. The second amalgamation (21 December 1796) resulted in the Bn, being redesignated the 70eme Demi-Brigaded-de-Ligne, together with the old 134eme , 157eme Demi-Brigade-de-Batailles, the 1er Bn, 72eme Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne (Vexin), the 1er Bn, and the depot of the 2eme Bn, 73eme Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne (Royal-Comtios), the 1er Bn, 74eme Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne (Beaujolais), the 4eme Bn, Volunteers de l'Herault, the 5eme Bn, de la Dordogne, the 5eme Bn, de Lot-et-Garonne, the 4eme Bn, du Calvados, the 3eme Bn, de la Charente and the depot of the 12eme Bn, Volunteers de la Republique. From 1799-1800 it served with l'Armees de l'Ouest and d'Italie was distinguished by its conduct at the clash of Turbigo, at the crossing of the river Ticino and fought at the battle of Marengo. In 1803 it was renamed the 70eme Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne. |
