2eme Regiment d'Infanterie Etranger


Regimental History

Ancestors:

The 2eme Regiment d'Infanterie Etranger was a formation created for the 100 days campaign. The Regiment was raised on 20 March 1815 from the remnants of the four old Swiss Regiments. The Regiment consisted of one single Battalion and was commanded by Colonel Stoffel. For the campaign of the 100 days the Battalion was assigned to the 2eme Brigade, 10eme Division, IIIeme Corps, Armee du Nord. It saw action on 15 June 1815 at the battle of Ligny and 18 June at Wavre. As a result of these engagements the Battalion was effectively destroyed as a fighting force. It was disbanded in July 1815.
