18eme co, 2eme Regiment Artillerie a Pied

The 2eme Regiment a Pied (Metz) was raised on 25 February 1720. Its first Colonel was Charles du Plessier, De Certement.

Unlike infantry or cavalry regiments, artillery regiments were never employed on the field of battle as integral tactical entities, except by pure chance. The regiment was an administrative organization; the tactical unit was the company or battery.
