| The Regiment was raised on 18 June 1690 by Charle MacCarthy, the Comte de Mountcashel. The Regiment was not divided in 1775. The 2eme battalion was sent to St Dominique in 1792 and was destroyed there. | |

 | Revolutionary Campaigns: In 1792 the 1er Bn, served in l'Armee du Nord where it assisted in the defence of Lille. It also saw action at the battle of Jemappes (6 November 1792) and joined in the invasion of Belgium, thereafter garrisoning the City of Antwerp. In 1793 the battalion formed part of the garrison of Valenciennes. After the fall of that place they were sent to the Vendee. The first amalgamation (15 July 1795) saw the battalion become the 2eme Bn, 157eme Demi-Brigade-de-Bataille, together with 13eme Bn, Volunteers des Vosges and the 4eme de Loir-et-Cher. The second amalgamation (21 Decenber 1796) resulted in its incorporation into the 70eme Demi-Brigade-de-Ligne. For further information see Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne Poitou (Nr 25). |
