Linda's father Ernest S. Rost died from malignant melanoma in 1994, so a donation to a cancer charity in his honor would be very meaningful to us. CRI focuses on the human immune system as a method of preventing and treating cancer.

KQED is the San Francisco Bay Area's local chapter for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). They provide high-quality programming with relatively little commercial influence. We listen to KQED radio all the time; Linda especially loves Car Talk!

The Sierra Club is one of the oldest and largest environmental organizations in the world. It was founded in 1892 and now has over 700,000 members. The Sierra Club fights to protect clean air and water, to promote renewable energy sources, to secure protection for American wild lands, to educate people about environmental issues, and more.

BBBSA is a youth mentoring program where children, mostly from single-parent homes, are matched with an adult mentor. BBBSA has been very effective in helping students improve their achievements in school, their relationships with others, and their self-confidence.

The San Francisco Food Bank helps feed hungry San Franciscans by collecting donated food and distributing it to food pantries, soup kitchens, child care centers, homeless shelters, senior centers, and other human service agencies. SF Food Bank distributes food to over 400 local agencies.

The American Red Cross is a chapter of the International Red Cross. Their mission is provide relief to victims of disasters, and to help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Linda and I decided to add this organization to our list of suggested charities in the wake of the horrible terrorist attack of September 11, as a way people can help contribute to the relief efforts in New York and Washington D.C.
Or, if you'd rather not donate but still would like to give a gift, we would love to receive anything home-made that expresses your creative talents and interests. Linda and I would be very touched by such a personal and meaningful gesture.
Finally, if you would prefer, we have also registered for a few things at the following sites:
