twisting my spine

like a centurion bonsai

and stretching toward

jade mountain peaks

fingers elongating

to clutch the sun

in my twig-claws

the holly and the ivy

when each is full-grown

of all trees in the wood

the holly wears the crown

even if it’s stunted

I’m overgrown with brambles

and berries of sweet bloody juice
