Construction materials: This Lanzo AirBorne is a kit produced by Bob Holman Kits/Plans. This is an excellent laser cut balsa kit. The instructions are very clear and it is very easy to put together. Take care building the fuselage or it will come out with a twist or bend. Mine did, but it doesn't show up when finished.
Comments:This is a very nice kit. This plane is normally powered by a gas .049 but I do everything electric so... I wasn't sure I had enough power with the tiny 280 motor but it is more than enough for some gentle "fishing"??? yep I call it "fishing for thermals". I put a tail wheel on my AirBorne so I can taxi out and then back in after the flight. There are 6 or 7 of these planes at our field. Some with gas and some with electric. With a Speed 400 for power this plane will really Zoom up. Lots of power. Just a couple weekends ago I took off then sat in my chair under the shade of my umbrella. As ususal we were sitting and talking, Just about everything, when someone asked "How long have you been up?", I looked down at the timer on my transmitter and it had been 37 minutes. I was flyin with just a little rudder control and sometimes letting the AirBorne do the work. I would let it drift down wind and then guide her back upwind and catch another thermal. If I didn't find a thermal I would give her just enough power to keep aloft. My Futaba has two timers. One when the transmitter is turned on and the other on the throttle. When the throttle is on this timer runs. It is set to go off at 7 minutes but this flight the timer had gone off a long time ago. So I just kept catching the thermals. Well 60 minutes and 55 seconds the AirBorne made a nice landing. The batteries were too dead to make a taxi back to the pits. This was my longest single power flight. I caught a lot of thermals that day.
This is a very nice flying plane. A very good thermal plane as well.
