Vector Specifications: 30.5 inch wingspan / 26.5inch length / 155 sq-inch wingarea / 19 ounce weight / 17.5 ounce wingloading.
Controls: ailerons, elevator and motor speed.
Equipment: One Cirrus CS-09 on ailerons and one CS-20bb on elevator, HITEC 555 receiver, Modified speed 400 w/6 Blade PowerFan 400 motor on 10 1100ma NiMH cells and a 15amp ESC. This PowerFan unit pulled 9.6 amps on the bench. This should give you a 6 minute + full power flight.
Construction materials: Different types of foam and thin plastic. Pre painted red with a lot of stickers - (Not Used). I really like the smooth wings and elevator.
Comments: This is the Wattage Vector. http://globalservices.globalhobby.comIt is labelled as a ducted fan trainer - with a warning on the front page - this plane is not for the inexperienced pilot. It is no way a trainer. Building is easy though there are a lot of parts to glue together or rather epoxy. Last Saturday after flying I stopped at the hobby shop picked up the Vector and later that after noon I was sitting in the living room floor cutting out vacuum formed parts from the sheet in the kit. Today a week later I made to very fast - 50mph flights - not bad at all. I used 5 minute and 30 minute epoxy. The 30 minute gives a stronger bond if you have the time. I followed the instructions pretty much. Very good instructions.
When completed the plane is solid and strong. Plus! all the equipment fit and the balance came out perfect. You can move the battery just a little forward and back to adjust the balance. My first flight I made sure I was on the forward balance mark.
BUT ! how does it fly? The instructions say to give it a pretty good toss, the fan has to come up to speed. Richard launched for me on the first flight and the controls were positive and all I needed was just two clicks of down trim. The climb out was nice. I turned right and continued to climb down wind. As I made a diving turn back into the wind the Vector came up to speed and we were off. The controls were solid and rolls are crisp. I did some cuban 8s and inverted flight was just a little down pressure. Don't yank too hard on the controls it will take away all the speed and this plane likes the speed and that goes for the landing as well. I was at a good altitude downwind and cut the throttle and watched the decent. The Vector didn't slow much and so around into the wind we came fast huhuh. I came in over the runway at about 5 feet and when it settled to 2 feet I started the flare, it settled skipped off the runway and we were still flying. Another 40 feet and I flared again and she did a fast stall and skidded to a stop. The second flight the takeoff and landing was a little better. I launched myself and it flew straight out. I'm used to throwing the 3 pound Fillip. Still the landing - don't wait or try to slow this plane down on the landing it really falls out of the flare fast.
My vector is new and the 9 amps on the motor should not be too much for a speed 400. But there seems no way to change the motor. It's built into the fuselage.
The Vector is a cool looking plane, the pictures are of the stock colors and I'm working on a bright color scheme. I am really happy how the Vector turned out. This is a great kit.
