Tigers roar, nearly

By Marcus Wilson.
TIGERS coach Brenton Honor is bracing himself for a fine after his pointed attack on the umpire's performance during the Glenelg/Port draw on the weekend.
But the first-year coach has stood by his comments believing the umpires tend to favour the top sides when making 50/50 decisions.
Honor also had been critical of the umpire's board for not responding to his concerns after the Norwood game. ''I'd be disappointed if they (the SANFL Commission) fined me because I actually tried to go through the right channels during the week,'' he said.
''The very thing that happened on Saturday is what I wanted to talk to him about.
''However earlier this week Honor was contacted by SANFL umpiring director Shane Harris to clarify the situation.
Honor said Harris saw his comments as a perception and not a criticism and agreed some decisions went against the Tigers.
''He didn't agree (with what I had to say) but he could understand how I was feeling - he was terrific,'' he said.
While the coach's comments caught the weekend headlines, it was the body language of the players which remains a vivid memory.
Matthew Bode slapped the ground in frustration seconds after Tony Brown's little dribble-kick rolled through for the equaliser.
Kelvin Maher lay on his back with has hands on his head with disbelief.
Later in the changerooms a number of players cried in disappointment.
Their actions were in stark contrast to their estactic mood only minutes earlier when an adrenalin-charged Sudjai Cook tried to kick a running goal onto the Glenelg tram-line.
After beating Norwood the week before, the Bays players thought they had done the unthinkable - beating top side Port.
Saturday's draw between the Tigers and Magpies shouldn't have happened.
After keeping in touch with Port all day, Glenelg lifted in the final term and found itself with a two-goal lead with only minutes to go.
A Bryan Beinke snap shot and Brown's last-gasp effort ensured the dramatic finish.
While it took them until the final term to hit the front, the Tigers showed signs all day that they would push Port.
At times the midfield look menacing with its onballers and half back line running in numbers and linking well by hand and by foot.
Brent Howard and Kane Cornes got plenty of the ball, while Bode and Maher had more impact as the match progressed.
The forward 50 was often left open for the game's only effective forward Sam Logan.
He was awesome, kicking six goals after making some lightning fast leads.
It is his second bag of six against the Magpies and he totally outplayed tough defender Graham Johncock for three quarters.
Experienced player Tom Carr also found him a handful.
While the Tigers should continue to build their attack around this goal sneak, they need some other forwards to contribute to the scorecard.
At the other end of the ground Alistair Burke did well to keep the jumping-jack Trent Ormond-Allen to 1.1.
While Ryan O'Connor clearly led the hit outs, the contribution from both tall brigades was important.
O'Connor is always a hard worker around the ground while Ackland was serviceable. For the Tigers, Matthew Golding took some telling marks in defence while Brad Smith added some spark in attack.
