Review

You can purchase this title at RACSThe description that graces the back of the Read or Die (R.O.D) DVD case does this OVA no justice. In fact most people would be turned away just by how lame it reads. Unless, having seen a trailer or read articles and reviews in magazines like Newtype USA or Animerica, a person wouldn't watch this OVA, except by accident.
Yumiko Readman is just an ordinary substitute teacher with a great passion for literature, okay, so I lie. Yumiko isn't ordinary, she is an obsessive bookworm, who struggles from paycheck to paycheck just to pay off her compulsive reading habit. But that's okay since she doesn't just rely on the teaching gig to tide her over. It just so happens that MI6 and MI5 aren't the only government agencies with the task of preventing evil super-villains from destroying the world. Yumiko, known as "The Paper", is a secret agent, with super-powers, in the service of Section A of Library Special Operations. Yumiko has the very cool ability to control paper to use in almost any way imaginable, from stopping bullets to creating origami. Clones of some historical dead guys desperately try to steal a book, written by Beethoven, to meet the apocalyptic designs of evil madman Ikkyu. Teamed up with the voluptuous Ms. Deep, who has the ability to pass through solid objects, and Drake Anderson, who has the ability to use guns (some ability), will Yumiko be able to stop the evil plot and get her book back.

Dialog

I would have to say that the dialog is a bit on the lame side. Sometimes it rambles, which seems almost impossible since the OVA isn't heavy with dialog. On the plus side the dialog was actually used to explain the plot and wasn't just there to fill time.

Plot

The powers that Yumiko and Ms. Deep possessed are original and ultra cool, luckily they help hide the unoriginal and unlogical evil plot to destroy all the inhabitants of the earth.

Extras

I liked being able to view the original trailer and the previews for other Manga titles. The historical biographies were pointless and the director and crew interviews weren't all that interesting.

DVD Menus

The main menu on the DVD features the title sequence for the R.O.D OVA. The music is great and so are the sexy transparent women.
