FLCL Volumes 1 & 2
Volume 1
We've all thought it- "Nothing ever happens here," and that's exactly what Naota thinks about his hometown Mabase. But one day this all changes when Haruko- First-class Patrol Officer of the Galaxy Space Police Brotherhood- rides her Vespa into town, brandishing a bass guitar. Wielding the instrument like a Louisville Slugger, Haruko slams Naota into unconsciousness and into a series of bizarre events spawned from the mark left on his forehead.
Volume 2
Naota accidentally bumps his forehead with classmate/mayors daughter Ninamori which eventually causes her to sprout a balloon like machine from her own head. FLCL volume 2 is the slightly confusing and fast-paced climax to the two book manga series. Giant robots, little kitties, clown costumes, and total destruction await those who read this finale of strange proportions.
The two volume series of FLCL are even more strange than the six episode anime series. Readers expecting the wackiness of the anime will be disappointed to find that the manga is more toned down. But, what the manga lacks in hysterics it makes up for with a slightly deeper and even weirder series. The unique art style of Hajime Ueda combined with the original story crafted by the minds employed at GAINAX creates a truly enjoyable experience in the FLCL manga.
