Can We Stay Forever?
By Melissa Formica

I feel your arms around me
Your fingers locked with mine
You hold me tight as to never let me go
Can we stay this way forever?
I feel your warm breath on my neck
Your hands caressing my back
Your hand stroking my face
Can we stay this way forever?
I feel your lips soft against my skin
Your body close against mine
I can hear your every thought
Can we stay this way forever?
I feel your breathing in perfect rhythms with me
I hear your heart beating fiercely with mine
Your eyes staring at me
Can we stay this way forever?
I feel your smile without opening my eyes
Your sweet words touching my heart
My soul giving itself to you
Can we stay this way forever?

Your arms that held me so tight
Now letting go ever so slowly
Your fingers unlocking from mine
I thought this was forever?
Your warm breath turned to words of ice
Hands that once held mine now start to push away
The way you used to hold me
now letting loose
I thought this was forever?
Your lips now turned harsh against my skin
Bodies that were as one now separated into two
Your warm thoughts I once read
now frozen behind that distant glare
I thought this was forever?
Breathing that once was in perfect rhythms
Now completely offset from mine
Your heart beating fiercely now
for another cause other than love
I thought this was forever?
Your eyes that once held so much love for me
Now hold only coldness and distance
The smile I once knew

appears only now when I close my eyes
I thought this was forever?
The sweet words you said now turned to anger
The place inside me they once touched
now burns with rage
As your face now expresses no emotion
I thought this was forever?
My soul that once offered itself to you
Cries to be returned to me
As the silence clouds over
I guess nothing is forever.
