Orakei Wharf

Just opposite to Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World is probably the most popular fishing spot within urban Auckland - Orakei Wharf. During hot summer days there could be as many as 50 or more fishing rods in action. Fishermen - both adults and kids - try their luck here, hoping to haul some big fishes in. The sad fact is that the possibility of catching any decent sized fish here is quite slim, since rapid population growth in Auckland in recent years has exacerbated water pollution, hence reducing fish population. The most common fish species caught are spotty, piper, yellow-eyed mullet, kahawai, snapper, jack mackerel, and sometimes, travelly.
