Piha

This well-known fishing spot in Waitakere is also a notorious one. For a start the location of Piha is at the edge of Tasman Sea where westerly wind is sometimes so strong that fishing there is down right hazardous. Sometimes even on a calm sunny day, huge wave could come suddenly. There have been news that fishermen were flushed to the sea by such unforeseeable wave. Some people escaped, some people were drown. At the same time though, there have also been news that excellent sized fishes (kingfishes, snappers, kahawais etc.) were caught there. People usually fish from the rock where a long surf-cast rod with heavy gear are required.
