Quote: "Well now, you're a big one! Looks like you could probably handle some heavy reading material. Here. Try a "Special Edition" (sound of metal striking a forehead, followed by a body hitting the floor). Well, I guess that was news to you...now how about my TWO DOLLARS?"
Description/Background: Growing up in a tiny ville in Northern Oaklahoma after the coming of the Reckoners, Kit proved early on that she was good at good at three things: throwing stuff (usually breaking other things in the process), talking her way out of trouble and riding her bike. At the young age of ten these skills caught the attention of an old Postman who was traveling through the ville. Upon seeing Kit's antics, the old man was reminded of the children who ran paper routes every morning in neighborhoods across the Americas before civilization ended. He told the story of the young newscarriers that night at the village meeting while sharing news of other settlements. Kit heard his tale and was instantly hooked by the idea of actually becoming a "papergirl" and delivering news and letters like the postman to surrounding settlements. Quite against her parents' wishes, Kit rode off after the postman when he left the ville the next day, and for the next two years slowly began to develop a reputation as "The Papergirl", traveling the old roads between the states spreading the lines of communication between many far flung and isolated villes. Along the way however, she began to draw the attention of Throckmorton and the Combine. Unlike many other Postmen that they were used to dealing with, Kit and her bike were able to slip by many traps and blockades in her pursuit to spread hope and news among the survivors in the wastelands. Her mentor however was not so lucky; the aging postman was finally caught and executed in a trap meant for Kit. This incident plunged Kit into despair for a brief time, and forgetting her obligation to spread the news, she tried to return home. But, as they say "you can't go home again". Upon returing to her ville, Kit found that it had been razed to the ground by the Blackhats. Survivors told her that they had come in search of "The Papergirl", and that they had killed her parents, most of the townsfolk and then destroyed the ville because they couldn't find her. Despite the good she was trying to do, they blamed the young child for the destruction and drove her away. Angered by the loss of her ville and family, Kit redoubled her dedication to deliver the news. With her personal oath against the Combine, she set out to spread the news and the fight against Throckmorton's tyranny across the West. Kit does everything in her power to impede the progress of the Combine and always leaves a rolled up newspaper as her "calling card" at scenes of her mischief. Kit is a pretty thirteen year old girl with deep blue eyes and long blond hair, usually tied back in a ponytail. Rather "tom-boyish" and strong for her age, she wears baggy jeans and t-shirts and always sports a beat up pair of running shoes and a baseball cap. Her oft repaired BMX bike is her constant companion. She carries her newspapers in a wire basket on the front of the bike and in a canvass newscarrier's pouch over her shoulder (usually at least half of these papers are wrapped around lengths of wood or metal pipe to be used as thrown weapons in a pinch). Her .38 is usually held in a holster attatched to her belt at the small of her back. Kit has a very friendly, outgoing personality and tends to make friends easily. She takes her responsibility to deliver the news very seriously and has a curious, inquiring mind. She enjoys travelling to new villes and different territories. She has a slight problem with dogs, ever since tangling with a wild pack while delivering the news to a small ville in New Mexico, and has a definite sweet tooth (she especially likes Pixie Stix when she can find them).
