About Me

I am from Arcata, California, a small town in a county called Humboldt. Though world famous for the Redwood trees that grow here, I am sure that most people locally accredit the fame of the region to yearly marijuana harvests, but that is just the culture around here. I am currently 18 years of age and am rapidly preparing for my journey to College. As I write this I feel as if I am completing a resume, but I feel that this page is necessary to help understand why this page was created. I enjoy writing, although I am not limited to it. I often draw, paint, and if you notice how uncharacteristic that backround images are in my site, you will note that I like to create digital art. Recently I adopted writing html as a hobby, but it was not my first experience in computer programming.

"Programming" is really the wrong word for coding html. Html only requires a few font and placement statements and does not include algorythm building or logic. In other words, the only trick to html is syntax, that is unless you delve into Javascript or any of the other variations that allow more effects and functions. Qbasic was the first language I programmed in, and although it was capable of a great deal, it was far too outdated to pursue with much energy. I then took introductory C++ and that is the extent of my programming experience. I consider it an exciting future career, but it does not really count as a hobby. Running is fun after the first 2 weeks of training. It stops being fun when my training schedule is interrupted and I spend my time merely building myself back up to what I had accomplished the week before. Right now, I am designing a trebuchet, which is, if you are unfamiliar with ancient weapons, a catapult that utilizes a counterweight as opposed to a spring mechanism. They once used them to knock down castle walls, now we build them for recreation and curiousity.

I suppose, one learns very little about a person by reading their hobbies, so I will continue. I am, first and foremost, a Christian, and although I will not pretend that I am a very good one, it is the center of all my beliefs and all my logic. Personally, I see it as impossible that someone could disagree with the overwhelming historical proof that the Bible presents but that is a debate for another time. My personal heroes besides my savior include Job, King David, George S. Patton, General Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, and of course, President George Washington. Napoleon had potencial for greatness, but ego stood in his way. Edward I of England was probably the greatest military genius of his time and his qualities would have been admirable had he not been so evil.

There is a great freedom to science fiction that does not exist elsewhere. Star Trek is a great example of Shakespearian drama impressed upon a futuristic venue. Star Wars was the classic hero journey that had existed for thousands of years. Alien incorperated the classic monster story with strong characterization and an element of intrigue usually reserved for mystery novels. History can be re-created and re-engineered in fantasy novels. Ray Bradbury, Piers Anthony, Isaac Asimov, and Robert A. Heimlein proved that science fiction could present universal ideas just as well, if not better than other types of fiction.

I will have a picture posted later, but for now, I hope this suffices to communicate a little about me before you decide to entrust me with your prized work. Believe me, there are times when nothing is more important than your art and being protective of it is more than justified. I hope you feel that you can trust me enough to post it on this website.

Take care, and the best of Luck,

Jon Phillip Davis Jr. (The Grimdrifter)
