Origins: Great Britain - In 1865 Lord Tweedmouth purchased one "yellow retriever" from Brighton cobbler. This dog was the sole yellow dog in an unregistered  litter of black wavy coated retrievers. He was named Nous. For over 20 years the Lord bred for dogs of high quality, hunting & game retrieval. He is responsible for the color, build, temperament, intelligence &tracking abilities of today's goldens. In 1903 the Kennel Club of England accepted the first goldens for registration.  In 1911 the Golden Retriever Club of England was formed. In 1932, the AKC officially recognized them & considered them a rare breed. Today, they are one of the top 4 most popular breeds. A Wonderfully versatile dog - Good retriever, upland game hunter, guide dog for blind,& makes a loving, easygoing pleasant companion & family pet. In the USA this breed dominates obedience competitions with flashy animation, quick reflexes, precision, trainability, and intense desire to please.
Goldens are a large dog requiring daily exercise because of energy level. They make a wonderful family pet, very loyal, great with children (having a high pain tolerance). Needs companionship of humans; deprived of this they can become hyperactive.
