Judge - Mrs. Debi Koopman, Miramichi Goldens
After a very long drive, mom says I am going to be in my very first dog show. Well it is not really a show, it is called a futurity. It was held in Pleasanton, CA. I am 2 days shy of 5 months old. I am much taller than the other 12 puppies in my class. Both my moms are here, my everyday mom, who is handling me in the ring and my other mom who is handling another puppy about 2 weeks younger than me. We have been here for a long time. Mom says the judge is very thorough. I did not make the cut. But I had fun and mom says I did really well for my first time in the ring.
Mom got me a tattoo today. It stung, but I think I will be ok. Especially since mom got me a new lead and a BRAND new squeak toy.

Today, we drove a short way to another futurity. There were only 5 golden gals entered today. I had a chance to get the ribbon and duck today. : ) Dad even came to the show. Mom bought an ex-pen, which is ok, but I prefer to run free. I am 8 1/2 months old today. I am again stagy as mom calls it. It was her first time to groom me all by herself, She got a grooming 101 lesson from Cathie Turner a few days ago. So she does not have to do too much to me, but I am shedding all over and drooling too. I get really excited when I get around the show ring. Mom had to carry a towel with her to the ring. We, again, did not make the cut, but we had fun. A great opportunity and I got a treat after the show was over.

Wow, my first real show. Mom and dad got up real early and brought Josh and I to the show grounds. Mom spent all last night fretting over my chest and how odd my coat looked. But I think I look pretty. Mom said that I won not because I was the only one in my class today, but because I looked great in the ring. The judge could still say that I was not up to the Breed Standard and not award me anything. But, I got my first blue ribbon today. : ) Mom was so happy. They took my picture and everything. I went up against 4 other girls for Winners Bitch, but I did not win that, maybe next time. I cannot wait till my next show.

Another day at the show grounds. Just mom, dad and me. Today I was a tad edgy. I had some competition. A young man who was handling a beautiful bitch. I was shedding terribly and I was jumpy, like a horse out of a shoot. Poor mom was jumpy too. But we were good sports and got our red ribbon for second. I wanted to get my picture taken again, but mom said next time I could. So I cannot wait till next time......what is a heat cycle and blowing coat???? Mom said it will be awhile till I am back in the ring.... I cannot wait.

Mom and I are starting a handling class. It should help us both learn the ring and what is expected of us, as well as teach us teamwork. I am excited. There is a Pomeranian, she has 4 points, a border collie, she is an obedience dog, and a malamute, Jake. there also a Westie, he showed up late. We learned about the ring and what we should do. we had a great time.... this will be for 8 weeks.
October 14, 1999 Handling Class Graduation
Mom and I have learned so much the past 2 months. Tonite was a graduation, there were only 3 of us, Jake the Malamute, Sarah the Pom and me. We went over everything, the T, the L, down and back, free stacking, baiting, etc. I had so much fun. We got dressed up just like it was a real show. Mom tried a new bait with me. Chicken. That was so yummy..... We got First Place in our graduating class. Mom was so proud. Mom got a ribbon and I got a big biscuit to eat. It was yummy. Mom says I will be in the show ring next month so we have a lot of work to do. : )

Mom took me to the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds today for a show. It was super cold in the morning. Mom is starting to get a cold so she did not show me as well. We got 3rd place of 3 today. We had fun. I looked really good in the ring, but I wish mom felt better.

We had a show today, but we did not do anything. A nice man helped mom get me groomed cause I am still not in full coat yet. This was the last show for the year and the last for me for awhile. Mom and I were up against a lot of professional handlers, that is kinda scarey at times. The judge really looked at me today, but she did not keep us we were 5th of 9.

My other mom took me into the ring today. She had some YUMMY chicken and I wanted to taste it. I showed really well and the judge looked at me real hard, but I did not get a ribbon. I got lots of chicken though. Mom said the judges this weekend wanted more dog. I am a lot of dog... I guess I need to grow some more.
