Formed in 1985 by drummer/keyboardist/vocalist Jan Kincaid, guitarist
Simon Bartholomew and bassist/keyboardist Andrew Levy, longtime school friends,
these guys are pionners in the London acid jazz scene. Besides most of the
important musicians of the London acid jazz scene like Mike Smith, Max Beesley,
other artists have participated in the band. The list includes rappers Main
Source, Gang Starr, Grand Puba and the Pharcyde, and also the following female
vocalists: Jay Ella Ruth, Linda Muriel,
N'dea Davenport, Seidah
Garret and
Carleen Anderson.
Most people say that the best BNH era was when N'dea was in main vocals (I
must admit that I love all the songs sung by N'dea and Jan Kincaid
together). "Brother Sister" is the album most aclaimed for BNH's fans. Their
last recording is a new compilation and it's called "Trunk Funk
Classics 1991-2000", which is not the same to "Trunk Funk the best of..."
that was released in England. This US last compilation has a new track sung
by N'dea called "Finish what you started" and also more songs which covers
their hip-hop story. Any comments? |
