Tracey Moore and Mercedes Martinez, who together make up the Jazzyfatnastees,
are originally from Los Angeles. In 1995 Moore and Martinez hooked up with
The Roots, joining the live hip-hop/jazz ensemble as auxiliary singers, and
made the unlikely move from sun-drenched showbiz central to less glamorous,
albeit deeply funky, Philadelphia. In 1999 they released their album "The
once and future" which was met with acclaim from the critics, and in 2002
the album called "Tortoise and the hare".
