Although their roots were in the rave scene, the 90s UK band Young Disciples'
debut single, 'Get Yourself Together', combined hip-hop with jazz inflections,
and featured the voice of
Carleen Anderson and
MC Mell 'O' on either side. The group, who comprised the duo of Mark 'O'
and Femi, would win much of their notoriety through Anderson's vocal attributes.
It was she who wrote and sang on many of their best recordings, including
'Apparently Nothin''. Her final release with the Young Disciples was Dusky
Sappho, a limited edition EP, after which she concentrated on her solo career.
Femi and Mark continued to use the Young Disciples banner, though the former
would also undertake remix work for Xscape ('Just Kickin'') and others. |
