GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Guard Jeff Brandt (Fr., Minot, N.D.) scored 26 of his career-high 29 points in the second half to lead North Dakota to an 82-75 come-from-behind win over visiting Nebraska-Omaha in North Central Conference men’s basketball on Saturday.

Brandt also had five rebounds and equaled a career high with five assists in the game.

North Dakota is now 15-4 overall and 8-3 in the NCC, while Nebraska-Omaha dropped to 7-11 overall and 2-9 in the NCC.

It looked like it might be the Mavericks’ night, though, as they led 29-24 at the half. Brandt had only three points in the first half after making just 1-of-7 shots from the field (1-of-4 three-pointers).

In the second half, Nebraska-Omaha built two nine-point leads and was leading 44-35 with 14:14 to play in the game.

That’s when Brandt went to work, scoring 20 points of his points in the game’s final 13:39.

First, a three-pointer by Brandt with 13:39 to play cut the UNO lead to 44-36.

Then another Brandt three-pointer with 9:26 remaining cut the Mavericks’ lead to 51-48.

With 7:57 left, Brandt made two free throws to tie the game at 53-53.

With the clock down to 4:55, a two-pointer by Brandt tied the game again, at 61-61.

After two free throws by Sioux point guard Curtis Munlin (Sr., Mishawaka, Ind.) gave UND a 63-61 lead with 4:32 to play, Brandt connected on a three-pointer with 3:46 left to extend the margin to 66-61 in favor of the Sioux.

Thirty-three seconds later, Brandt nailed another three-pointer to cap an 11-0 Sioux run that made it 69-61 with 3:13 remaining.

After that, Nebraska-Omaha could get no closer than six points, and Brandt made four free throws in the final three minutes to help clinch the win for the Sioux. Brandt made 9-of-20 field goals in the game (8-of-13 in the second half) and 5-of-10 three-point attempts. He was 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Brandt's previous career best was 26 points, which he has reached twice. He scored 26 on Friday in UND's win over Nebraska-Omaha and also scored 26 on Dec. 9 against Augustana.

Brandt was not the only Sioux player to top 20 points on Saturday.

UND forward Kyle Behrens (Sr., Hayfield, Minn.) scored 23 points for UND.

Nebraska-Omaha was led by center Darran Miller, who also had 23 points.

Munlin had 13 points and Sioux forward Nigel Jenkins (Jr., Chicago, Ill.) added 10 points.

The Sioux will continue their schedule on Saturday when North Dakota State visits Hyslop Sports Center for a 7 p.m. contest.
